Michael Ross Artist Talk & Opening Reception

October 10, 2025 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Artist Michael Ross will display a collection of oil paintings on untraditional shapes from October 6 through December 5 at the Rotating Exhibits Gallery in Farmington Hills City Hall. The public is invited to meet Ross during an Artist Talk and Opening Reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 10 at City Hall, located at 31555 W. Eleven Mile Road. The public can also visit the art exhibit any time City Hall is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

“My work has everything to do with perception and the way we understand and recognize the world and ourselves within it. The ways in which we understand the world affect the way we see it and the way we see ourselves,” said painter Michael Ross. This collection of Ross’ recent works with repeating series of lines and dots brings thought around the theme: We Speak the Same Language. “Ideas bounce back and forth a lot. The patterns they make can become confusing. Part of my work lies in organizing this confusion and sometimes adding to it as well.”

Michael Ross studied art and anthropology at Oakland University graduating in 2003. He currently lives and works in the Detroit area. Since 2014 he has been painting out of 333 Midland Studios in Highland Park, Michigan. His murals can be seen all over the Detroit metropolitan area, with significant commissions at ALEchemy Bar at Woodward Avenue Brewers, The Dot parking structure, Recycle Here!, Port Bar, Supergeil and Manistique Alley. He also paints private interiors, portraits and guitars.

As part of the Public Art Program, Ross displayed four paintings in the last cycle at The Hawk; these include “Howling for Blood,” “Under the Shadow of the Proscenium of the George Washington Bridge,” “Black Moon Over California” and “Margaret Mead & Jane Goodall.” The City of Farmington Hills’ Public Art Program was initiated in 2010 to enhance the renovated Farmington Hills City Hall; it offers employees, residents, and visitors a chance to experience and enjoy a wide range of art. Most of the artwork is available for sale and allows local artists to have exposure to a bigger client base. If you are interested in purchasing artwork, please contact the Cultural Arts Division at 248-699-6709.
