The Ultimate Farmington Sledding Hill Guide
From a mom of two who wanted everything in one place… finally!
Every winter I tell myself “We should go sledding,” and then… I can’t remember which hills are good, which ones are too steep, where to park, or which spots are actually kid-friendly. So here it is. The guide I wish I’d had all along: the best sledding hills in and around Farmington, rounded up from local parents, community favorites, and our own mom-tested experiences.
Use this to pick your perfect snow-day adventure:
The Best Sledding Hills Near Farmington
1. Shiawassee Sled Hill aka Our Lady Of Sorrows Hill (Farmington)
Address: 32500 Shiawassee St, Farmington
Best for: Elementary–middle school kids, families who want a classic hill, anyone wanting a quick local sled (but be careful about sledding right into Farmington Road!)
Slope style: Medium–steep, fast, wide hill
Parking: Large lot right next to the hill (easy walk)
Notes: Considered by many to be the “big one” in Farmington. Fun and fast, but can get crowded. Hay bales at bottom sometimes freeze so keep an eye out.
2. Heritage Park Sled Hill (Farmington Hills)
Address: 24915 Farmington Rd, Farmington Hills
Best for: Younger kids, cautious riders, families wanting a scenic and gentler slope
Slope style: Long, moderate incline
Parking: Multiple lots within the park; short walk
Notes: Easier walk back up the hill. Beautiful setting and great for a calmer sledding day.
3. Behind Coach’s Corner (7 Mile & Farmington Area)
Address: Behind Coach’s Corner Sports Bar on 7 Mile (unofficial hill locals love)
Best for: Teens and anyone seeking an alternative lesser known hill
Slope style: Steeper, faster runs
Parking: Park near Coach’s Corner
Notes: Some locals swear it’s the best sledding in Oakland County.

Address: 4600 Walnut Lake Rd, West Bloomfield
Best for: Toddlers, preschoolers, early elementary
Slope style: Gentle, long slope
Parking: Library parking lot
Crowd level: Light

5. Welch Rd Hill (Just South of Maple, West Bloomfield)
Address: Welch Rd south of Maple
Best for: Younger kids, families wanting a quiet sled spot
Slope style: Small, easy slope
Parking: Street-side (depending on conditions)
Crowd level: Very light
Notes: A great “we only have 45 minutes before dinner” hill.

Address: Near Fox Creek Golf Course, 7 Mile
Best for: Older kids, thrill seekers
Slope style: Steep, fast
Parking: Golf course/nearby areas

🌨️ Final Thoughts
I made this guide because — like every mom — I’ve stood in the kitchen after a snowfall wondering, Okay… where should we actually go? Now you’ve got every option in one place, whether you’re looking for a quick 30-minute sled run before bedtime or a full snow-day adventure.

Cześć! I was born in Poland and moved to the U.S. when I was four, growing up in Hamtramck and later Warren, where I discovered my love for community, events, and gathering people together. Motherhood has been life-altering and I wouldn’t have it any other way. My husband, Mark and I have two little girls, Mila and Summer, and our home is always buzzing with projects, laughter, and a bit of chaos. Living in Farmington keeps us connected to everything we love, from festivals to incredible local restaurants and more. Above all, I believe in connection, and lifting each other up whether it’s through an event or scavenger hunt via my company Next Clue because no matter what season of life you’re in, you’re never alone.
